What is project chat?
It is a conversation for the people editing this project. Open it inside Scratch to discuss changes without leaving the editor.
How to use chat
- Open the chat control in the editor toolbar.
- Type a message and press Enter. Use Shift+Enter for a new line.
- Use the header controls to close chat or switch to a movable floating panel.
More detail & reference
Open chat and send a message
The floating chat can be moved by dragging its header. It remains inside the Scratch page; it is not a separate browser window.
- Join an active CoBlocks project and open its chat control in the editor toolbar.
- Type in Write a message… and press Enter to send.
- Use Shift+Enter for a line break.
- Use the chat header controls to close it or switch between attached and floating layouts.
Messages and emoji
Messages appear under their sender’s Scratch name and avatar. Supported shortcodes include ,, :fire:, and :coblocks:. This is a fixed supported set, not a full Markdown or arbitrary-HTML editor.
The backend limits incoming chat text to 2,000 characters. It runs a profanity filter and can censor content. Do not rely on long messages remaining intact.
Unread state and notifications
Incoming messages can create an editor notification and an unread indicator. Opening chat clears chat-related unread state; messages received while chat is open do not increase its unread count.
Click a message notification to open chat. Browser notifications and sound are separate popup preferences; enabling one does not automatically enable the other.
Chat privacy and retention
Chat is for the project’s authorized collaborators. It is not end-to-end encrypted: the backend processes and stores project chat, logs messages, and can forward logs to an operator-configured Discord webhook.
The interface loads project chat history, but this guide makes no promise of indefinite retention, private direct messages, message editing/deleting, attachments, or threaded conversations. Keep passwords, tokens, and sensitive personal details out of project chat.
